Aldi is an amazing store with lots of great products and if you’re wondering exactly what to buy at ALDI, keep on reading! Although you won’t find name brand food at Aldi, you will find high-quality products at really great prices.(Their products are up to 50% cheaper than popular items from your local grocery store!)

Don’t miss my free grocery shopping and meal planning printable at the end of this post!

In addition to low prices, Aldi rocks in a few other areas:

  • They have removed certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils and added MSG from all of their private label products.
They are currently working on removing artificial growth hormones from all of their dairy products.
They double guarantee their products! If you don’t like a product, they will replace the item and give you your money back. Who does that?!
They have just enough stuff – and not too much – that make a trip to the grocery store with two toddlers manageable!

What to Buy at ALDI

Today I’m sharing my all time favorite list of what to buy at ALDI. I include the prices where I can to give you an idea of the savings you can enjoy. (The prices shown are accurate as of 8/11/17 and were in the Lansing, Michigan location.)

What to Buy at ALDI

Diapers. ALDI has a fantastic little line of baby products labeled “Little Journey.” The Little Journey diapers are by far my all time favorite disposable diapers for my little one. (We typically cloth but I always send disposables to the sitter and use them when we are traveling.) Today I bought a large box of 82 diapers for only $10.86. I’ll also share that we use their training diapers for my big toddler and they are one of the only trainers that don’t leave little red bumps all over my girl’s booty.

Baby Pouches. Where can you find organic pouches for your little one for less than $1? ALDI! The Little Journey line has a line of 8 or so different pouch foods that my babe loved. ALDI’s organic baby food pouches are .76 each.

Cheese. ALDI has a great selection of cheeses! Not just your basic sliced and shredded cheeses either; they have the kind of cheese that you can take to a dinner party! I love their blocks of Havarti cheese as well as their wedges of Parmesan cheese.

Meat. Some of my favorites include their Rotisserie flavored turkey breasts and their flavored chicken sausages. They also have a line of meat labeled “Never Any!” that is pretty impressive.

Aldi has this to say:

“Chickens sourced for ALDI’s Kirkwood Never Any! Chicken Breasts are raised in modern, state-of-the-art ventilated, lighted (some with curtains that raise for natural light), open barns without cages. The barns provide enrichments and other elements to ensure a comfortable and interactive environment with protection from inclement weather, varying temperatures, disease and predators.”

Yes, please!

Canned goods. Cheap, cheap, cheap! I usually stock up on things like black beans, other canned vegetables, tuna and fruit when I hit up ALDI.

Snack foods. I don’t know about you, but my kiddos LOVE to snack! Our favorites include:

  • Organic White Cheddar Puffs. My nine month old loved these as did my toddler. I love them too! Clearly perfect for any age. – $1.99
  • Fig Bars (just like Fig Newtons) – .98
  • Mini Muffins – $2.99
  • Cheese sticks
  • Organic fruit snacks (box of 12) – $4.99
  • Organic applesauce pouches – $2.29
  • Vanilla Wafers – $1.79
  • Mint Cookies (better than Thin Mints!) $1.29
  • Sweet potato chips
  • Fruit bars (just like Nutri-Grain Bars) $1.39
  • Penguin crackers (like goldfish but better!) $1.49
  • Pretzel sticks – $.99
  • Cookie Butter. This stuff is DELISH! If you have never had cookie butter, you need to try it asap. It’s basically ground up cookies made into a spread. It’s is so yummy on ice cream, toast or by the spoonful. $2.59

Spices. ALDI has a great selection of basic spices, including garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, Italian seasoning and a handful of other common spices. They are larger than the typical jars you find in mainstream grocers, and they are only $1.99! Don’t miss their taco seasoning packets for only $.35!

Nuts/trail mix. We love the cashews ($4.99) and almonds. ($4.99)They even have a variety of flavors; this time I tried the cocoa almonds and even my 3-year-old loves them!

Seafood. I really like ALDI’s portioned salmon fillets, ($3.69) and they are even wild caught! Have you heard about salmon farms? Gross. I have high hopes for their frozen raw shrimp, too! ($5.99)

Wine. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by ALDI’s wine selection. Your friends will be blown away when you show up at the next wine tasting party!

Fruit and Nut Bars. Just like the KIND bars that I love but just about half the price! ($2.99!)

Baking Ingredients. Flour is flour, sugar is sugar, right? ALDI has all of the basics you’ll need to whip up something sweet, including sugar, flour, chocolate chips, baking soda/powder, coconut, vegetable oil, etc. I once made 12 dozen cupcakes for a wedding with ingredients from ALDI, and let me tell you…they turned out fabulous!

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. I keep this on hand mainly for health reasons. A simple ACV concoction can kill a cold in less than 24 hours. I share that secret here.

Organic Coconut Oil. If you’ve been around my blog for any amount of time, you know I love coconut oil and use it for tons of stuff!

Salad Dressings. ALDI has quite a variety. I love their house vinaigrette that rings up at $1.89.

Brownies. Usually, home made is better, but not when it comes to brownies. Brownies out of a box always turn out better, and ALDI’s brownies don’t disappoint. ($.95) Try their Cookie Brownies too! Those are brownies topped with Chocolate Chip Cookie mix. YUM!

Pierogies. I love to keep these on hand for a quick weeknight dinner, and my girls love them. I’m polish, so naturally, Pierogies are one of my favorite foods! They even have Polish sausage to go with them!

Bagels. I love everything about everything bagels! I love ALDI’s just a little more because they are only $1.59 yet they taste just like the Thomas brand bagels that are $3.99 or more at a typical grocery store. They have a few different flavors to choose from if you’re not into everything:) Their cream cheese rings up at only $1.49!

Condiments. ALDI has your basics like ketchup (they even have organic), mustard, pickles, olives and more.

Guacamole. This is some of the best pre-made guacamole I’ve ever had@ They sell it in a box with two separate bags, as well as a pack of 4 individually packaged snack sized cups!

Home essentials. I buy zip baggies, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, toilet paper and tissue at ALDI. It does the job and is much cheaper than name brands at a fraction of the cost!

Seasonal goodies. ALDI always has an aisle that has seasonal things like outdoor lanterns for the summer, and dorm room stuff when schools about to start. I always find something in this aisle that I didn’t come for. Last time, I found some enjoyable puzzles and play garden tools for my girls.

Phew! That just about sums up my recommendations of what to buy at ALDI! If you’ve never been I’ll let you in on a few other tips about shopping there so you’re prepared.

Tip for Shopping at ALDI:

Bring a quarter. To keep prices low, ALDI doesn’t have the staff to go chase carts in the parking lot. To use a cart, you will put a quarter into the slot (the carts are all chained together near the entrance), and the cart will release. You’ll get your quarter back when you return the cart after you’re done shopping.

Bring your own bags. Again, since ALDI doesn’t staff a bunch of people, you bag your own groceries. (They do sell bags for a few cents each if you forget) This is not a big deal for me at all because I’m kind of picky with how my groceries are bagged anyhow.

I use these awesome bags that clip on to the cart as well as double as a grocery bag. I just unhook them, grab the handles and toss them in the trunk. You can get them right here on Amazon.

Forget the coupons. Aldi doesn’t accept coupons, but that’s okay because you won’t need them with prices this low! (They typically don’t carry name brand items anyway.)

I hope this post was helpful for you! I love ALDI and encourage you to shop there as well. Not only because it is much more cost effective, but because I think we all can appreciate ALDI’s mission and goals:)
