Are dealing with a cranky, clingy, sleepless baby?

If so, I have some helpful tips that I’ve gathered from my tribe of over 200 mamas. We’re sharing our favorite teething remedies that will soothe your little one’s gums and take away their pain so you can get a break! (And some sleep!)

Over 100 moms share the remedies they've counted on to get through the dreaded phase of teething. Teething baby - baby hack- baby's first tooth - how to soothe a teething baby - natural teething remedies - 6 month old

When your baby pops her first tooth, it’s hard not to celebrate the milestone! You’ll also learn that it can be super very hard to deal with a teething baby! How is a busy mom to deal with a drooling, cranky, whiny, clingy…bundle of joy?

We’re currently on round two of teething and although there is no escaping it, there are some remedies that my husband and I have found that make a teething baby easier to handle.

Wear a Pretty Necklace

How many babies have you noticed lately wearing these cute little necklaces? Although they are cute, they aren’t a fashion statement. Baltic Amber contains Succinic Acid which is a known anti-inflammatory which is supposedly absorbed through the skin. My first was a terrible teether, so she wore this amber necklace all the time. My second child doesn’t seem to need it as much. Not only does an amber necklace help with the teething pain, but it also reduced drooling A LOT in both of my babies.

Try This Unique Teething Oil

This teething oil is a blend of chamomile, clove and peppermint oils that really soothes baby’s gums. Just dab a little on your finger and massage on the tender gums. It is a little minty and provides a little numbing sensation similar to Oragel but not as extreme. I can see using this for years to come. Some of the reviews on Amazon stated that their older kids used it when getting in new molars, and even adults can use it for minor pain in the mouth. I tried a little on my gums and can see why this would soothe those aching gums.

Homemade Baby Pops

You can tell Q loved everything about her frozen teething pop! If you are nursing, try freezing some of your milk in ice cube trays and using a mesh feeder like this one for your baby to gnaw on. You can also freeze fruit purees or chunks of watermelon, banana or avocado if your baby is old enough to be consuming solid foods. My little one loved it, especially since she was teething in the summer. It not only soothed her pain but it was something to keep her busy. The only downside is that it can get a little messy. But when you’re dealing with a teething baby, we’ll try anything out of desperation won’t we?

Gnaw on a Cute Giraffe

I think all babies and parents love Sophie. She actually has been around for a long time (1961!) and was a childhood staple in France. Sophie the Giraffe is a perfect teething toy that is flexible and has a lot of parts for baby to chew on. She is also made of 100% natural rubber and food grade paint. Sophie is on my list of great gifts for a baby shower and new mom moms too, it’s a perfect price point! My girls both loved their mini Sophie as well!

Another Cute Necklace (This one’s for mom!)teething baby

Not only are these cute for mama to wear, but my babe loved to mouth on it when being held. I sported this teething necklace quite a bit in the teething era. (Oh, wait…I’m still in it!) They come in a few different colors and they are neutral so they won’t harm your wardrobe! Not only are they for teething, but they do a great job at keeping your nursing’s hands busy when nursing. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like fingers in my nose and scratches all over my neck!

Frozen Washclothsteething baby

Talk about easy! I keep a few of these thin frozen washcloths  in the freezer at all times. My little one loves to chew on them. All you have to do for this teething remedy is run it under water, squeeze the excess out and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. There is something about a cold washcloth that my little one finds funny, so that’s a bonus because I get to hear that cute little giggle!

Teething Biscuits

Both of my girls loved these! Not only are they good for teething but they also keep a baby occupied when in a restaurant, on a walk or waiting for a Dr’s appointment. I always keep these in my purse so they are readily available. They come in a few different flavors so they never get old.

Nurse, Nurse, Nurse!

This is probably my favorite remedy. I am a big advocate for breastfeeding, as there are so many benefits to nursing your babies. Nursing my little ones always seemed to calm them down and take their mind off of the pain of teething. I’ve even heard that it has the same effect as Tylenol or other pain medications. I’d much rather bond with my baby than give medicine. Nursing is like magic, and it’s readily available whenever you need it!

I encourage you to try some of these natural teething remedies for your baby before you reach for the bottle of Tylenol. Trust me, I have used Tylenol or Ibuprofen a handful of times when absolutely necessary, so do whatever you need to do to soothe your baby. You know what’s best, mama!
